John has devoted his career to civil rights, public service and education. Currently the California executive director of Generation Citizen, he was Dean of the University of San Francisco School of Law from 2013-2018. Previously, he was President Obama’s HUD Assistant Secretary Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity and President Clinton’s Special Counsel for Immigration Related Unfair Employment Practices at the Department of Justice. John has worked extensively on issues of importance to the Asian American community including immigration policy and voting rights when he was counsel to U.S. Senator Paul Simon on the Senate Judiciary Committee. In addition, he currently serves as president of the Lowell High School Alumni Association and helped establish the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) which provides scholarships and mentoring for Asian Americans interested in public policy careers. John is a graduate of Harvard University and Stanford Law School.
