6/1/18: China Now
Dear Friends of 1990 Institute:
As the new Executive Director of 1990 Institute, I’m pleased to invite you to join our Board of Directors and community for the opening night of SOFT POWER, David Henry Hwang’s contemporary comedy mixing romance, laughter and cultural confusions. We’ve reserved a group of seats for the show at the Curran Theater in San Francisco on Wednesday, June 20th. We’re also hosting wine and hors d’oeuvres at the theater starting at 6:30 pm until the curtain goes up at 8:00 pm. Bring your friends and family and come mingle with us before the show! Tickets are limited, so we recommend you secure your tickets before June 5th: SOFT POWER.
And secondly, mark your calendar for July 27 and 28 from 8 am to 2 pm Pacific. Our China Now colloquium will present the latest from experts on modern China. This speakers event was formerly offered only to teachers but now will be offered to the general public via simulcast. Tune in to hear the latest from seven speakers, including Rob Schmitz, National Public Radio’s Shanghai correspondent, who will be speaking about Happiness in Modern China. Clayton Dube, Director of University of Southern California’s US-China Institute, will be moderating. Sign up here for simulcast details: https://www.1990institute.org/china-now/. (If you’re a teacher, you can sign up to attend live: https://teachers.1990institute.org/2018-apply/.)
Please let us know if you have any questions or comments. Looking forward to seeing you at SOFT POWER!
All the best,
Educating the next generation of Americans and Chinese to broaden and increase mutual understanding.
